Who can apply? Check your district first

This is the rule that trips most people up. You can apply for a work centre only if you're a domicile of, or got your qualification from, the districts linked to that centre (Annexure 1 of the advertisement). Some examples:

What's the age limit?

You must be 18 to 24 years old as on 29 November 2026. That means your date of birth should be between 29 November 2002 and 29 November 2008.

Relaxation in the upper age limit:

• SC and ST: 5 years

• OBC (non-creamy layer): 3 years

• PwBD: 10 years (general), 15 years (SC or ST), 13 years (OBC)

What qualification do I need?

It depends on the trade. A few examples from the advertisement:

• 10th pass: Library Assistant

• 12th pass or 2-year ITI: Fire Safety Technician (Oil and Gas)

• ITI in the trade: Electrician, Fitter, Welder, Machinist, Mechanic Diesel, COPA, Instrument Mechanic and more

• 3-year engineering diploma: Electrical, Mechanical, Instrumentation and other executive trades

• Engineering degree: Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, Computer Science executives (NATS)

• Graduate with Geology: Petroleum Executive

Who is NOT eligible?

Read this carefully, because ONGC rejects these straight away:

• Anyone who has already done an apprenticeship, or is doing one now, under the Apprentices Act

• Anyone with one year or more of training or job experience after getting the qualification

• Anyone who passed the qualifying exam more than three years before 29 November 2026

How much is the stipend?

CategoryMonthly stipend
Graduate apprentice (BA, B.Com, B.Sc, BBA, BE, B.Tech)₹12,300
3-year diploma₹10,900
Trade apprentice (10th or 12th)₹8,200
Trade apprentice (1-year ITI)₹9,600
Trade apprentice (2-year ITI)₹10,560

ONGC won't pay travel, boarding or lodging. Plan for that if your work centre is far from home.

How do I apply, step by step?

1. Check your district in Annexure 1 and pick one sector, one work centre and one trade.

2. Find out if your trade is NAPS or NATS. The trade table in the advertisement marks each one.

3. For NAPS trades, register on apprenticeshipindia.gov.in, complete your profile, then search for ONGC and apply for your trade and centre.

4. For NATS trades, register on nats.education.gov.in, complete enrolment, and apply to ONGC's opening.

5. Enter marks exactly as on your marksheet. Merit is based only on these.

6. Submit before 20 November 2026 and save a screenshot.

7. Keep checking your email, including the spam folder. ONGC sends shortlisting updates by email.

How does ONGC select apprentices?

There's no written test. ONGC prepares a provisional merit list per trade and work centre based on marks in your qualifying exam. If two candidates tie, the older one gets preference. Shortlisted candidates are called for document verification. Results are due on 15 December 2026 on ongcapprentices.ongc.co.in.

Selection also depends on being medically fit. And remember: an apprenticeship is training, not a job. ONGC doesn't promise permanent employment afterwards.

Which should I pick, NAPS or NATS?

You don't really choose. The trade decides it. ITI, 10th, 12th and some graduate trades like Executive Finance and Secretarial Office Assistant are on NAPS. Engineering degree holders, engineering diploma holders in Civil, and some graduate trades like Accounts Executive and Store Keeper are on NATS. Check the "Scheme" column for your trade in the advertisement before you register. Applying on the wrong portal is one of the easiest ways to lose your chance, because ONGC only collects applications from the portal listed against each trade.

Is ONGC apprenticeship worth it?

For a fresher, yes. You get a year of hands-on training at one of India's biggest energy companies, a stipend, and a certificate under the Apprentices Act that private and public sector employers value. It doesn't guarantee a job, but it's a strong line on your CV.

Documents checklist for verification

☐ 10th certificate or other date of birth proof ☐ Marksheets and certificate of the qualifying exam ☐ ITI, diploma or degree certificate ☐ Result declaration date proof (principal's certificate if not on the marksheet) ☐ Caste or PwBD certificate, if claiming reservation ☐ Domicile certificate or proof matching the district ☐ NAPS or NATS registration details ☐ Valid photo ID and self-attested photocopies of everything

What if something goes wrong?

• Applied for the wrong centre? You can apply to more than one, but ONGC will allot only one centre and one trade

• Profile issue on NAPS? Use the portal's helpdesk

• No email after the result? Check ongcapprentices.ongc.co.in regularly

Final reminder

District first, trade second, portal third. Make sure your district is listed for the centre, check whether your trade is NAPS or NATS, and apply before 20 November 2026. Don't wait for the last two days when portals slow down.
