Lost Your CBSE Marksheet? How to Apply for a Duplicate Online on DADS

Losing your Class 10 or Class 12 CBSE marksheet can be stressful, especially when you need it for college admission, a job, passport documentation or another official purpose.

The good news is that CBSE provides an online Duplicate Academic Document System (DADS) through which students can request duplicate academic documents without having to begin by visiting a CBSE Regional Office. CBSE's online system supports requests for duplicate documents, including marksheets and certificates, and provides options for digital as well as printed documents. CBSE

What Is CBSE DADS?

DADS stands for Duplicate Academic Document System.

It is CBSE's online system for obtaining academic documents when the original document has been lost, damaged or otherwise needs to be replaced.

CBSE introduced the online process to reduce the need for students and parents to visit Regional Offices for duplicate Class 10 and Class 12 documents. CBSE

Depending on the document and option available, the system can provide:

  • Duplicate marksheet
  • Duplicate pass certificate
  • Other eligible academic documents
  • Digital documents
  • Printed duplicate documents

CBSE's current website continues to list Duplicate Academic Document System (DADS) as an official student service. CBSE

First Check DigiLocker Before Applying for a Duplicate

If you only need a digital copy of your marksheet, you may not need to order a printed duplicate immediately.

CBSE provides digital academic documents through DigiLocker, using its academic repository, Parinam Manjusha. CBSE has stated that digitally signed documents from examinations from 2004 onwards are available through its digital systems. CBSE

For recent Class 10 and Class 12 examinations, CBSE also provides digital academic documents through DigiLocker after results are declared. CBSE

So check these two options:

Need a digital document quickly?

Check DigiLocker first.

Need a physical replacement?

Use DADS to request the printed duplicate document.

How to Apply for a Duplicate CBSE Marksheet Online

Step 1: Open the Official CBSE DADS Portal

Use the Duplicate Academic Document System linked from the official CBSE website.

The DADS application address specified by CBSE is:

CBSE DADS Portal

CBSE's own 2021 circular specifically directs candidates to this portal for online requests for duplicate academic documents. CBSE

Use the official CBSE website or the DADS link rather than a private website offering to obtain a "fast" duplicate certificate.

CBSE issued a public warning in 2025 after unauthorised sources were found advertising duplicate marksheets, certificates and document corrections. CBSE

Step 2: Select the Required Document

The DADS system allows candidates to request eligible academic documents.

If you lost your Class 10 or Class 12 marksheet, select the relevant marksheet/academic-document option shown by the portal.

Depending on your requirement, you may also see options relating to:

  • Pass certificate
  • Migration certificate
  • Other academic documents

Follow the options displayed for your examination year and document type.

Step 3: Choose Digital or Printed Document

CBSE's online process provides both digital and printed-document options, depending on the document and service selected. CBSE

If you select the digital option, CBSE's process directs you toward DigiLocker.

If you require a physical duplicate, select the printed-document option and complete the online application. CBSE

Always confirm what the organisation requesting the document will accept before paying for a physical duplicate.

Details You Should Keep Ready

Before starting the application, keep your CBSE examination information available.

This can include:

  • Class — X or XII
  • Examination year
  • Roll number
  • Candidate's name
  • Father's/mother's/guardian's name as applicable
  • Date of birth
  • School details
  • Examination-related information
  • Current address
  • Mobile number
  • Email address

Having your old academic details available can make the application easier.

If you have a photocopy, scanned copy, DigiLocker copy or photograph of your lost marksheet, keep it nearby while filling the form.

What If You Don't Remember Your Roll Number?

Don't panic.

Before starting the application, check whether you have any old records containing your examination details.

Look through:

  • Old marksheet photocopies
  • School records
  • Admission documents
  • College admission forms
  • Previous job-document submissions
  • DigiLocker
  • Old examination correspondence
  • Emails or scanned documents

If you cannot establish the required examination details, contact the relevant CBSE Regional Office rather than entering uncertain information.

CBSE maintains regional offices with dedicated Marks & Migration / Duplicate Documents & Verification sections. CBSE

Do You Need an FIR for a Lost Marksheet?

Don't automatically assume that you need an FIR simply because your marksheet is lost.

The online DADS process determines the information and requirements applicable to the particular request.

Older CBSE guidance contains additional requirements for certain duplicate-document situations, particularly involving older records and repeat/triplicate requests. CBSE

Therefore, follow the requirements displayed by the current DADS application instead of relying on an old checklist circulating online.

How Much Does a Duplicate Marksheet Cost?

CBSE has a prescribed fee structure for issuing academic documents and corrections, and the amount depends on the document/service and applicable rules.

CBSE's official website maintains a dedicated Fee for Issue of Documents/Correction section under its Duplicate Documents & Correction services. CBSE

Because fees and online-service requirements can change, check the amount displayed in the official DADS application before making payment.

Avoid paying an intermediary simply because a website claims that CBSE's normal process is difficult.

What Happens After You Submit the Application?

Once the application and payment are completed, keep your:

  • Application/reference number
  • Payment receipt
  • Transaction ID
  • Email confirmation
  • Screenshots of the submitted application

These details are useful if you need to track the request or contact CBSE.

For a printed document, the processing and delivery arrangements depend on the service selected and the applicable CBSE procedure.

Can You Get a Duplicate Marksheet for an Old Exam?

CBSE maintains examination records for different years through its Regional Offices.

However, the availability of records can vary depending on the year of examination and the regional jurisdiction. CBSE publishes information about the availability of older records and the Regional Offices responsible for them. CBSE

If you passed many years ago, check the applicable regional-office information before assuming that the same process applies to your record.

For particularly old records, additional procedures may apply.

What If Your Marksheet Has a Wrong Name or Date of Birth?

A duplicate document request is different from a correction request.

If your original CBSE record contains an error in:

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • Father's/mother's name
  • Other personal particulars

you should check CBSE's correction in particulars procedure rather than simply requesting a duplicate of the incorrect document.

CBSE maintains separate procedures for duplicate documents and correction of particulars. CBSE

A duplicate normally reproduces the Board's existing academic record; it is not automatically a mechanism for changing that record.

What If Your Marksheet Is Damaged?

You can still use the duplicate-document process if the original has been damaged or mutilated.

CBSE specifically notes that duplicate copies may be requested when academic documents are lost or mutilated. CBSE

Keep the damaged document safely if you still have it, rather than throwing it away immediately.

If the DADS application asks for additional information about the damaged document, follow the current instructions on the portal.

What About the Migration Certificate?

There is an important recent change here.

CBSE announced that from the 2025 examinations onwards, hard-copy Migration Certificates would no longer be routinely issued to Class X and Class XII students, while digital Migration Certificates would be provided through DigiLocker. CBSE

During the transition period, CBSE said that students requiring a hard-copy Migration Certificate could make a request through DADS. CBSE

So don't assume that the document package issued to a recent CBSE student is identical to what was issued several years ago.

Is a DigiLocker Marksheet Valid?

CBSE provides digitally signed academic documents through its digital repository and DigiLocker.

CBSE has also stated that digital copies of certificates are accepted by higher-education institutions, following the relevant government/UGC arrangements. CBSE

If a college, employer or government department asks specifically for a physical duplicate, however, follow that organisation's requirement and use DADS for the printed document if necessary.

Don't Use Private "CBSE Duplicate Marksheet" Websites

This is particularly important.

You may find websites or agents offering services such as:

"Get duplicate CBSE marksheet in 24 hours."

Be careful.

CBSE issued an official warning in August 2025 stating that unauthorised sources were circulating misleading information about duplicate marksheets, certificates and document corrections. The Board said official information is available through CBSE's website, Regional Offices and verified communication channels. CBSE

You should therefore avoid:

  • Unofficial duplicate-certificate websites
  • Agents asking for unnecessary fees
  • People asking for your DigiLocker password
  • Anyone requesting your OTP
  • Social-media accounts claiming to be CBSE officials
  • Websites that promise guaranteed "instant" certificates

What to Do If DADS Isn't Working

Online government portals can occasionally have technical problems.

If the DADS portal is unavailable:

  1. Check the official CBSE website again.
  2. Avoid switching to an unofficial duplicate-document website.
  3. Check whether CBSE has published a technical notice.
  4. Contact the relevant CBSE Regional Office.
  5. Use the official Marks & Migration/Duplicate Documents contact information.

CBSE's current contact directory lists regional offices and specific contacts for Marks & Migration, Duplicate Documents and Verification. CBSE

Lost Your CBSE Marksheet? Follow This Route

Lost physical marksheet → Check DigiLocker → Need physical copy? → Open official DADS → Select duplicate academic document → Enter examination details → Select printed document → Pay applicable fee → Save acknowledgement → Receive/collect the duplicate through the prescribed process.

If your requirement is only to prove your academic qualification, check DigiLocker first. If an organisation specifically asks for a physical replacement, use the official DADS route.

Most importantly, don't pay an unofficial agent for something CBSE already provides through its own online system. CBSE
