LPG Aadhaar Biometric e-KYC by 1 Oct 2026: Keep Your Subsidised Refill

Quick take: From 1 October 2026, domestic LPG consumers who have not completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA) will need to complete it before booking a refill at the regulated Retail Selling Price with applicable subsidy. If you have already completed BAA, you do not need to repeat it. The latest Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas announcement says authentication can be completed during delivery, at the distributor showroom, or through your OMC’s mobile app. (Press Information Bureau)

As of 19 September 2026, 27.43 crore active domestic LPG consumers—89.9%—had already completed authentication. (Press Information Bureau)

First: check whether you actually need to do it

Don't blindly repeat e-KYC.

Already completed BAA?

→ Nothing further is required.

Not completed / status unclear?

→ Complete it before 1 October 2026.

The government had previously extended the authentication deadline several times, with 14 September 2026 being the latest pre-October deadline. The new rule takes effect from 1 October. (Press Information Bureau)

Three ways to complete LPG biometric authentication

1. During cylinder delivery

When the delivery person arrives:

  • Keep your Aadhaar details available.
  • Ask the delivery person to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication.
  • Follow the authentication prompts on the OMC device/app.
  • Wait for confirmation before ending the delivery interaction.

The Ministry specifically says delivery personnel can complete authentication on the spot using the OMC mobile application. (Press Information Bureau)

2. Visit your LPG distributor

Go to your distributor's showroom and ask for:

“Biometric Aadhaar Authentication for my LPG connection.”

Take your LPG consumer details and Aadhaar-related information required by the distributor.

Don't pay a random agent for a process the OMC provides through its own channels.

3. Do it through the OMC app

The Ministry lists these self-service routes:

  • Indane: IndianOil ONE
  • Bharatgas: HelloBPCL
  • HP Gas: HP PAY

The official announcement says consumers can complete the process themselves from home through these OMC mobile apps. (Press Information Bureau)

What changes on 1 October?

The important distinction is subsidised refill booking, not simply whether you possess an LPG connection.

From 1 October:

BAA completed

→ Continue booking refills at the applicable RSP with subsidy.

BAA not completed

→ Complete authentication first to enable subsidised-RSP refill booking. (Press Information Bureau)

The Ministry has also stated that consumers who do not wish or are unable to complete BAA can register that choice through their OMC's available digital channels. They can still receive LPG at the applicable market price without subsidy, in 5 kg or 10 kg cylinders subject to local availability. (Press Information Bureau)

Don't confuse e-KYC with a new LPG connection

This campaign is about authenticating an existing LPG consumer/connection.

It is not:

  • Applying for a new LPG connection
  • Transferring your connection
  • Changing your distributor
  • Rebooking an old cylinder
  • Applying for PMUY from scratch

If your connection details themselves are wrong, deal with that separately through your OMC/distributor.

Why Aadhaar biometric authentication?

According to the Ministry, the objective is to ensure subsidised LPG reaches genuine eligible consumers and to help identify duplicate and ineligible connections and prevent diversion of subsidised domestic cylinders. (Press Information Bureau)

The government has been using Aadhaar-based authentication and deduplication as part of the PAHAL/LPG subsidy system for several years. (Press Information Bureau)

Family 15-minute LPG check

For every LPG connection in the household:

1. Identify the OMC

2. Check whether BAA is already complete

3. If pending, authenticate

4. Save the confirmation

5. Make your next refill booking normally

6. Check that the applicable subsidy is credited according to your entitlement

Don't make four family members repeat authentication simply because one person's SMS says “e-KYC pending.”

What to do if the fingerprint fails

Don't keep forcing the same biometric attempt indefinitely.

Ask the distributor/delivery agent what alternative authentication or assistance is available through the OMC's official process.

If the app reports an error:

  • Screenshot the error
  • Note your consumer number
  • Try the distributor route
  • Contact the OMC helpline if necessary

The national LPG services helpline listed by the Ministry is:

1800 2333 555. (Press Information Bureau)

Don't pay a middleman for “LPG Aadhaar KYC”

Biometric authentication is available through:

Delivery → Distributor → OMC app

So be cautious if someone says:

“Give me ₹300 and I'll activate your subsidy.”

Never give an unknown person your Aadhaar OTP, UPI PIN, bank PIN or app password.

What about the subsidy itself?

The subsidy mechanism depends on your eligibility and applicable government/OMC rules. Completing BAA does not by itself create a subsidy entitlement for someone who isn't otherwise eligible.

For PMUY beneficiaries, the government separately specifies targeted subsidy arrangements. (PMUY)

So think of BAA as:

Authentication ≠ automatic subsidy eligibility

If you've already done e-KYC

This is the most important sentence in the latest announcement:

If you have already completed BAA, you do not need to do it again. (Press Information Bureau)

Don't let a delivery agent, WhatsApp message or local shopkeeper convince you that you need to repeatedly authenticate without checking your OMC's official status.

Elderly parents: do this before October

Sit with each LPG connection holder and check:

  • Consumer number
  • OMC name
  • Aadhaar authentication status
  • Registered mobile number
  • Bank/subsidy details where applicable
  • Last refill transaction

If BAA is still pending, complete it while there is time to troubleshoot.

One important correction to viral messages

You may see posts saying:

“No e-KYC = no LPG.”

The latest Ministry clarification is more specific.

For consumers who do not complete BAA, the government says they can still receive LPG after registering their choice through available OMC channels, but without subsidy and at applicable market price, subject to the stated cylinder availability. (Press Information Bureau)

So the practical message is:

Complete BAA before 1 October if you want to preserve access to applicable subsidised-RSP refills.

Your October-ready checklist
