Digi Punjab (digi.punjab.gov.in) is the Punjab government's single portal for more than 300 services, including caste, residence and income certificates, pensions and property-related services. You register with your mobile number, pick the service, upload documents, pay any fee online and track the file with your application number.
Updated 4 November 2026
If you've ever gone to a Sewa Kendra three times for one certificate, you know the pain. Wrong form, one missing photocopy, "come back another day". Digi Punjab is meant to fix a lot of that. Punjab has been moving its citizen services onto this one portal, and news reports in 2026 put the number of live services above 300 across about 12 departments, with a plan to take it much higher. Here's how to actually use it, without getting stuck.
Quick facts
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Official portal | digi.punjab.gov.in and its services list |
| Helpline | Your nearest Sewa Kendra, or the helpline number shown on the Digi Punjab site footer (check the site, numbers can change) |
| Fee | Depends on the service. Many certificates carry a small government fee plus a service charge; the exact amount shows before you pay |
| Deadline | No single deadline; each service has its own time limit for the department to decide |
| Documents | Aadhaar, a mobile number linked to you, plus service-specific proofs like a residence proof, income proof or caste proof |
| Older portal | connect.punjab.gov.in still lists many services and may redirect to Digi Punjab |
What Digi Punjab is, in plain words
Think of it as one front door for most Punjab government services. Earlier, you'd find some services on Connect Punjab, some on department websites, and some only at the Sewa Kendra counter. Digi Punjab pulls them together. You create one login, and from there you can apply for many services, upload documents once, and see the status of every application in one place.
Reports in The Tribune in 2026 said more than 300 services were live and the state planned to bring over 800 onto the portal, with fixed timelines for each. Treat the exact count as a moving number. What matters for you is whether your service is on the list, and that's easy to check on the services page.
Which services can you apply for?
The list keeps growing, so always check the services page for the latest. Going by the department list and news coverage, these are the kinds of services you'll find:
| Department area | Examples of services |
|---|---|
| Revenue | Residence (domicile) certificate, income certificate, property-related services like mutation or transfer (where available) |
| Social Justice | Caste certificates (SC, BC), related verifications |
| Social Security | Old age pension, widow and destitute women pension, disability pension, related applications |
| Health and Local Government | Birth and death certificate services, medical-fitness related certificates |
| Home | Police verification, arms licence services |
| Local Government and Water | Water and sewer connection related approvals in towns |
| Marriage registration | Registration of marriage |
| Labour | Labour welfare board services |
If a service you need isn't on Digi Punjab yet, it's probably still on the department's own site or only at the Sewa Kendra. Don't worry, you'll still get it, just not here.
Before you start: keep these ready
Most rejections happen because of documents, not because of the portal. So spend five minutes getting these sorted:
• Aadhaar with your current mobile number linked, because OTPs go there.
• Clear scans or phone photos of each document, in PDF or JPG, within the size limit the form shows.
• A recent passport-size photo in digital form.
• Proof specific to the service. For a residence certificate, proof that you've lived in Punjab for the required period. For an income certificate, salary slips or a self-declaration with supporting papers. For a caste certificate, your parent's caste certificate or old records.
• A UPI app or net banking for the fee.
How to register on Digi Punjab
1. Open digi.punjab.gov.in on your phone or computer.
2. Tap the sign-up or register option.
3. Enter your mobile number and verify it with the OTP.
4. Fill in your basic details exactly as on your Aadhaar. A spelling difference here can cause trouble later.
5. Set a password and save your login details somewhere safe.
If the site offers Aadhaar-based login, that's often the quickest, because your name, date of birth and address get filled automatically.
How to apply for a service, step by step
1. Log in and go to the services list.
2. Search for your service by name, like "residence certificate" or "old age pension".
3. Read the instructions box. It tells you which documents are needed and how long the department has to decide.
4. Fill the form. Use the same spellings as your documents.
5. Upload each document in the right slot. Don't upload one combined file unless the form asks for it.
6. Check the preview carefully. Fixing a mistake after submission is much harder.
7. Pay the fee online if the service has one. Save the receipt.
8. Note your application number. Take a screenshot.
How to track your application
Log in and open your dashboard or "my applications". Each application shows its status, like submitted, under verification, objection raised, approved or rejected. If an objection is raised, you'll usually get an SMS. Open the application, read what the officer wants, upload the missing document and resubmit. Don't file a fresh application for the same thing, because duplicates often get rejected.
Once approved, most certificates can be downloaded as a digitally signed PDF. A digitally signed certificate is valid without a physical stamp. Many people also save it in DigiLocker so it's handy later.
Can't do it online? Use a Sewa Kendra
Not everyone has a smartphone or is comfortable uploading documents. That's fine. Punjab's Sewa Kendras can apply for you on the same system. Carry originals and photocopies. Pay only the official fee and service charge shown on the receipt, and ask for a printed acknowledgement with the application number.
Common reasons applications get rejected
• Name or date of birth doesn't match between the form, Aadhaar and other documents.
• Blurry or cut-off document photos.
• Wrong document uploaded in a slot, like an electricity bill where a residence proof affidavit was needed.
• Not replying to an objection within the time given.
• Income proof that doesn't match the income you declared.
What if the department doesn't decide on time?
Punjab has the Punjab Right to Service Act, which sets time limits for notified services and lets you appeal if an officer sits on your file. If your application crosses the time shown on the portal, first raise it at the Sewa Kendra or through the grievance option on the portal. If that doesn't move it, ask about an appeal under the Right to Service Act to the designated appellate authority. You can also use RTI to ask for the status of your file. Our guide to filing an RTI online explains the basics.

Frequently asked questions
Is Digi Punjab replacing Connect Punjab?
Punjab is moving services onto Digi Punjab, and many Connect Punjab links now point there. Some services may still sit on the older site for a while. Check the Digi Punjab services list first, and use Connect Punjab only if your service isn't there yet.
Which certificates can I get on Digi Punjab?
Common ones include residence, income and caste certificates, along with birth and death certificate services and marriage registration. The services page lists every live service, and the list keeps growing, so check it for the latest.
How do I track my Digi Punjab application?
Log in and open your applications dashboard. Each application shows its current status. You can also track it at a Sewa Kendra with your application number.
What should I do if my application is rejected?
Read the rejection reason on the portal. If it's a document issue, fix it and apply again with the correct papers. If you think the rejection is wrong, ask the Sewa Kendra about the appeal route under the Punjab Right to Service Act.
Can a Sewa Kendra apply for me?
Yes. Sewa Kendra staff can file the same application for you. Carry original documents and copies, pay only the fee on the official receipt, and keep the acknowledgement with your application number.
