Pull Your Class 10/12 Marksheet From DigiLocker — The Correct Way

Quick take: If your board has published your academic record to DigiLocker/NAD, you can retrieve your Class 10 or Class 12 marksheet/certificate as an Issued Document instead of relying on a scanned photograph or WhatsApp PDF. DigiLocker says Issued Documents come directly from the issuer's repository and contain an issuer-generated URI for verification. (DigiLocker)

This guide is specifically for retrieving an existing marksheet. It is not an APAAR creation guide and not a general explanation of DigiLocker verification.

Why "Issued Document" matters

DigiLocker separates documents into two buckets:

Issued Documents

These are electronic documents made available by the original government department, board or institution through DigiLocker/NAD.

Uploaded Documents

These are files you upload yourself.

So if you have:

Class12_Marksheet.jpg

in your phone and upload it to DigiLocker, that doesn't turn it into an officially issued academic record.

If your board has published your marksheet and you fetch it through DigiLocker, it appears under Issued Documents. (DigiLocker)

Step 1 — Open DigiLocker

Use the official DigiLocker website or app.

DigiLocker

Create/login to your account and complete the authentication requested by the current DigiLocker flow.

Step 2 — Go to Education

Inside DigiLocker:

Browse Documents → Education

Find your board/institution.

For CBSE, the issuer is Central Board of Secondary Education.

DigiLocker's current education ecosystem includes Class X and Class XII marksheets among its prominent documents. (DigiLocker)

Step 3 — Select the document

Choose the relevant document, such as:

  • Class X Marksheet
  • Class XII Marksheet
  • Passing Certificate
  • Migration Certificate

The exact options depend on what your board has published.

Step 4 — Enter your board details

The system may ask for information such as:

  • examination year
  • roll number
  • registration number
  • name
  • other board-specific information

NAD's official instructions say the required fields depend on the academic institution/award and that, after consent and retrieval, the document becomes available in Issued Documents. (National Academic Depository)

CBSE students: there is an additional route

CBSE has an established DigiLocker integration.

For recent CBSE results, CBSE publishes digital academic documents through its Parinam Manjusha repository and DigiLocker. CBSE's 2025 instructions specifically identify digital marksheet-cum-certificates and migration certificates as documents made available through this system. (CBSE)

For some CBSE batches, students receive a DigiLocker access code/PIN through their school. CBSE has also documented a process where students access their Class X/XII digital documents through DigiLocker after activation. (CBSE)

So don't assume every CBSE batch follows exactly the same login screen.

Step 5 — Check "Issued Documents"

This is the important part.

After successful retrieval, go to:

DigiLocker → Issued Documents

You should see the board-issued academic record there.

DigiLocker describes these documents as records issued directly from the original data source, with a URI generated by the issuer. (DigiLocker)

What if "No Record Found" appears?

Don't immediately assume your marksheet doesn't exist.

Check these in order:

1. Examination year

Make sure you selected the correct year.

2. Roll number

Compare it character-for-character with the board record.

3. Name/DOB details

A mismatch between your DigiLocker identity information and the board's record can interfere with retrieval.

4. Correct issuer

A state-board student should search for the actual state board, not CBSE.

5. Availability for your year

DigiLocker/NAD availability varies by issuer and academic year.

The NAD portal maintains a year-wise academic-record availability database, so availability isn't identical for every institution and year. (National Academic Depository)

State-board students: don't assume CBSE rules apply

This is particularly important.

DigiLocker currently lists hundreds of issuers across states, but the documents and years available depend on what each board/institution has supplied to NAD. (DigiLocker)

If your Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana or another state-board marksheet isn't appearing, first check whether that issuer/year is actually available.

If your marksheet isn't available

Don't buy a "DigiLocker marksheet" from Telegram, WhatsApp or an agent.

DigiLocker/NAD says the academic institution or board is responsible for making the academic records available. If a record is missing, the student should approach the board/institution to have the digital record published. (DigiLocker)

So the correct chain is:

DigiLocker → check issuer/year → check details → contact board if record genuinely isn't available.

Can colleges accept a DigiLocker marksheet?

There is strong official support for this.

The UGC instructed higher educational institutions to accept degrees, marksheets and other educational documents available in DigiLocker's Issued Documents as valid documents. The communication specifically mentions records from boards including CBSE and other recognised institutions. (DigiLocker)

CBSE has separately stated that its DigiLocker marksheet-cum-passing certificates and migration certificates with digital signatures are legally valid and should be accepted by higher educational institutions. (CBSE)

But: always follow the particular admission/counselling notification. A college may still require originals for physical verification.

Admission portal checklist

Before submitting your marksheet:

DigiLocker

→ Issued Documents

→ Select Class X/XII document

→ Open it

→ Check name

→ Check roll number

→ Check marks

→ Check year

→ Download/present through the permitted method

Then check the college/counselling portal's instructions.

Don't upload a random screenshot if the portal specifically provides a DigiLocker fetch/import option.

Class 10 + Class 12: keep both

For many admissions, you may need both.

Create a simple digital folder:

Education Documents

  • Class 10 marksheet
  • Class 10 certificate
  • Class 12 marksheet
  • Class 12 certificate
  • migration certificate, if applicable
  • entrance-exam documents
  • admission receipts

Keep the DigiLocker-issued originals separately from ordinary scans.

APAAR is different

This confusion is becoming common.

APAAR ≠ DigiLocker marksheet.

APAAR is an academic identity/account framework.

Your Class 10/12 marksheet is an academic document issued by the board.

You may encounter both during your education journey, but retrieving a marksheet does not mean you have created an APAAR ID.

What about job applications?

The same Issued Document can be useful when an employer asks for education credentials.

But don't assume every private employer accepts DigiLocker instead of physical originals.

For joining formalities, follow the employer's documented requirement.

Name mismatch? Fix it before admission week

Suppose your board record says:

ISHAN KUMAR REDDY

but your Aadhaar/DigiLocker profile says:

ISHAN K. REDDY

Don't randomly create another DigiLocker account.

First identify which source contains the incorrect information.

The board/institution controls the academic record. DigiLocker is retrieving what the issuer has published. NAD specifically notes that academic institutions are responsible for the accuracy of their records. (National Academic Depository)

The 10-minute family education check

For every student:

Class 10 → available? → Issued? → correct?

Class 12 → available? → Issued? → correct?

Migration certificate → required? → available?

APAAR → separate requirement?

Admission portal → DigiLocker accepted?

Do this before the admission deadline rather than while sitting in an online counselling queue.

Never give an agent your OTP

If an education consultant says:

"Give me the DigiLocker OTP. I'll download it for you."

Don't.

You can log in yourself and show/download/share the document.

The same rule applies to cybercafés and photocopy shops.

If the document is genuine, how can it be verified?

DigiLocker provides verification infrastructure for its issued documents. The official verification service describes DigiLocker as providing authentic digital documents and verification mechanisms, and issued documents carry an issuer-generated URI. (DigiLocker)

So the useful distinction is:

official Issued Document ≠ photo of a marksheet ≠ random PDF forwarded on WhatsApp.

NetaSampark angle

Education credentials are increasingly digital, but the last-mile problems remain very ordinary:

"My board record isn't showing."

"The school entered the wrong DOB."

"The admission desk doesn't know how to verify it."

Keep the issue tied to the correct institution, document, year and reference number.

For broader citizen-service navigation, NetaSampark can help citizens explore education-related service guides rather than relying on unofficial agents.

Be Informed. Be Heard.
