The real problem: "I can't find myself"

A zero-result search can be alarming.

But one failed search does not necessarily mean your name has been deleted.

An old voter record may have:

  • A different spelling of your name
  • A different spelling of your relative's name
  • An incorrect age
  • An old address
  • Different electoral-roll details
  • A mobile number that is no longer in use

That's why Maharashtra's draft search gives you more than one way to look for your record.

Search carefully before you conclude that you're missing.

If you're reading this in mid-September, you have roughly two weeks left in the claims and objections period.

Don't leave the search until the final few days.

Step 1: Search the Maharashtra SIR draft

Go to the CEO Maharashtra website and look for:

"Search your name in Draft Eroll of SIR 2026"

You can also cross-check through the official ECI voter-services portal:

https://voters.eci.gov.in/

The important part is that you have three search routes to try.

1 Search by EPIC

If you still have your voter ID, this is usually the easiest place to start.

Enter the EPIC number exactly as it appears on your card.

If that doesn't produce a result, don't immediately assume you're out of the roll.

Move to the personal-details search.

2 Search by personal details

Use the information requested by the portal, such as:

  • Name
  • Relative's name
  • Age
  • Gender
  • District
  • Assembly Constituency

A few practical search tricks

If the first attempt produces nothing:

Try the spelling from your old voter record.

Your EPIC spelling and Aadhaar spelling may not necessarily be identical.

Try variations of your relative's name.

For example, a record may contain "Ramesh" while you're searching "Ramesh Kumar."

Try a nearby age if the old electoral record contains an age error.

Check the Assembly Constituency carefully.

A wrong AC can produce a perfectly reasonable-looking zero result.

Don't treat that zero as proof of deletion.

3. Search by mobile number

This is the option many people overlook.

If your mobile number is associated with your electoral record, try the mobile-number search provided by the Maharashtra draft search.

This can be particularly useful if:

  • Your EPIC card is lost
  • You don't remember the EPIC number
  • Your name has multiple spellings
  • You're checking records for elderly family members

If you've changed your mobile number since the relevant electoral update, don't worry — use the EPIC or personal-details search instead.

After you find your name: save the evidence

Don't just look at the result and close the browser.

Take a screenshot.

Record:

  • EPIC
  • Assembly Constituency
  • Part number
  • Serial number
  • Name
  • Address
  • Current draft status

If the portal shows an ASDD or other exclusion message, save that too.

If you eventually need to file a claim, that screenshot gives you a clear starting point.

What if every search says "not found"?

Don't panic.

Try this sequence:

Search 1

EPIC number.

Search 2

Name + relative + age + district + AC.

Search 3

Mobile number.

Search 4

Check with your BLO or relevant electoral office.

If you're still unable to locate the record, ask the BLO/ERO to help establish your electoral-roll status.

Three careful searches plus a local check are much better than one failed search followed by panic.

Step 2: Choose the right form

Once you've established what's wrong, choose the form that actually matches your situation.

For a new inclusion, the qualifying date is 1 October 2026, subject to the applicable eligibility requirements.

Don't use Form 6 simply because it is the form you've heard about most often.

The problem determines the form.

Your pre-submission checklist

Before submitting anything:

  • ☐ Saved a screenshot of the result
  • ☐ Noted EPIC number
  • ☐ Noted AC, part and serial
  • ☐ Checked your current address
  • ☐ Prepared relevant identity/residence documents
  • ☐ Chosen the correct form
  • ☐ Confirmed your mobile number works for OTP
  • ☐ Saved the application reference number after submission
Step 3: File your claim or correction

If you've established that you need to submit an application, use the official ECI voter-services route:

You can also use the applicable local ERO/BLO process.

Before submitting, check every field.

Especially:

  • Your name
  • Relative's name
  • Date of birth/age
  • Address
  • Assembly Constituency
  • Mobile number

Don't rush because the deadline is approaching.

A carefully completed application is more useful than a rushed application followed by another correction.

What if you're listed as Dead?

If you're very much alive and the record says otherwise, don't ignore it.

First:

Confirm the official record.

Then:

  1. Save the search result.
  2. Keep your EPIC ready.
  3. Gather the relevant documents.
  4. Use the appropriate inclusion/claims process.
  5. Attend any verification or hearing if required.
  6. Keep your application/reference number.

The same applies if you're incorrectly shown as Shifted or otherwise excluded.

The important thing is to establish what the official record actually says.

Don't confuse ASDD with every possible missing-name case

The draft may show different reasons why an elector isn't present in the included list.

You may encounter:

  • ASDD-related entries
  • Enumeration not received
  • Other categories/messages

Read the exact status shown for your record.

Don't assume that everyone who isn't in the included draft has exactly the same problem or needs exactly the same action.

What if you're already in the draft but something is wrong?

This is where people sometimes make an unnecessary Form 6 application.

If your name is already present but something such as your address or another electoral detail is incorrect, look at the Form 8 route for applicable corrections.

First ask:

"Am I missing, or am I present but incorrect?"

That answer determines what you should do next.

The family search trick

If you're checking your whole household, don't do it one person at a time over several weeks.

Sit down for 20–30 minutes and make a simple list:

If you discover a problem today, start today.

What happens after you file?

Keep your reference number until at least the final-roll publication.

Watch for:

  • SMS
  • Email
  • Application-status updates
  • BLO communication
  • Hearing notices
  • ERO decisions

If you're called for verification, carry:

  • Original documents
  • Copies
  • EPIC
  • Application acknowledgment
  • Any notice received

Don't assume:

"I submitted Form 6, so the problem is solved."
