This is a status-tracking guide. It is not a Form 6 tutorial, SIR document-proof guide, or hearing/notice explainer.
First: save the number
When you submit a form online, don't close the screen and assume the application is saved.
Keep:
- Acknowledgement / reference number
- Screenshot of successful submission
- Date and time of submission
- EPIC number, if you already have one
- Mobile number used for the application
- Copy of uploaded documents
- Any SMS/email received from ECI
The ECI's Form 6 itself tells applicants that the Acknowledgement No. can be used to check application status. (Election Commission of India)
Think of the reference number as your receipt for the application, not proof that the application has already been approved.
Where to track it
Use the official ECI Voters' Services Portal:
The ECI identifies “Track Application Status” as a voter service for applications relating to registration and electoral-roll updates. (Election Commission of India)
For SIR-specific searches, the portal also provides SIR 2026 electoral-roll facilities, including searches of previous SIR rolls. (Voters ECI)
What to enter
Depending on the service and application type, the portal may ask for information such as:
Reference / acknowledgement number
↓
State / relevant details
↓
Captcha or authentication
↓
Application status
The exact interface can change. Follow the fields displayed by the live ECI portal rather than an old screenshot.
What “Pending” means
Pending ≠ rejected.
A pending application means the process has not reached its final disposal stage.
Depending on the application, processing can involve:
- Scrutiny of the submitted form
- Verification of information/documents
- BLO-level verification
- ERO/AERO processing
- Additional information or documents
- Decision on the application
The ECI's SIR instructions describe BLOs as conducting house-to-house distribution, collection and verification of enumeration forms, while EROs handle the electoral-roll process. (Election Commission of India)
So don't treat a pending status as a reason to submit the same application repeatedly.

Important: Exact labels can differ between services and revisions of the portal. Don't assign a meaning to an unfamiliar status purely from a WhatsApp screenshot.
Don't confuse application status with roll status
These are two different checks.
Application status
“What happened to the form I submitted?”
Use your reference/acknowledgement number.
Electoral-roll search
“Is my name actually in the electoral roll?”
Use the ECI electoral-roll search.
The ECI says voters can check whether their name appears in the electoral roll through the electoral-search service, the Voter Helpline channels or 1950. (Election Commission of India)
A successful application submission therefore isn't the same thing as immediately seeing your name in the roll.
Delhi SIR example
For Delhi's 2026 SIR, the CEO Delhi website says the draft roll was published on 31 August 2026 and that an eligible elector whose name was not found in the draft could file Form 6 + declaration during the claims and objections period running from 31 August to 30 September 2026. So a Delhi elector might have:
Form 6 submitted
→ reference number received
→ application pending
→ verification/processing
→ decision
→ subsequent roll update
Don't assume that seeing “Pending” on 24 September means the application has failed.
If the status hasn't changed
First check:
- Is the reference number correct?
- Did you receive a submission acknowledgement?
- Are the details on the application correct?
- Is the claims period still open?
- Has the application been sent for verification?
- Has the BLO/ERO contacted you?
- Does the electoral-roll search show a result?
Take screenshots of the status on different dates if the application remains unresolved.
Don't file a duplicate just because it's pending
This is one of the easiest ways to create confusion.
If you already have:
Reference number + successful submission + pending status
don't immediately create another identical application.
Instead, track the existing application and contact the appropriate election office if the processing period or instructions require follow-up.
If you receive a BLO call
Keep your reference number ready.
You can say:
“I submitted the application online. My reference number is ______. Could you please confirm whether any verification or document is pending from my side?”
Record:
- Date
- Officer/contact details
- What was requested
- Deadline, if given
Never provide your OTP or account password to someone over a call simply because they claim to be a BLO.
If additional documents are requested
Don't upload a random collection of identity documents.
Check exactly what the officer/notice asks for.
Then:
Document requested → clear scan/photo → correct application/reference → submission acknowledgement
Keep the original document safely with you.
If your application is rejected
Don't immediately submit another form without reading the reason.
Save:
- Rejection/status screenshot
- Reference number
- Reason/order, if provided
- Documents originally submitted
Then determine whether the correct response is:
correction → fresh application → appeal/representation → contact ERO/AERO
The correct route depends on the application and reason for rejection.

This distinction matters.

Don't submit Form 6 simply because your Form 8 correction is pending.
Your 10-minute status check
For each family member:
1. Find reference number
2. Open official ECI portal
3. Track application
4. Screenshot current status
5. Search the electoral roll separately
6. Check for BLO/ERO communication
7. Record anything still required
Keep one spreadsheet or notebook with:

When “pending” becomes a follow-up problem
Don't panic because the status hasn't changed overnight.
But if:
- the relevant claims deadline is approaching,
- the portal repeatedly shows no movement,
- the BLO says something is missing,
- you receive conflicting instructions,
- or the application appears stuck after the expected processing stage,
take your reference number + screenshots + supporting documents to the appropriate election office/contact channel.

The most important rule
Track the form AND track the electoral roll.
Your reference number tells you what happened to your application.
The electoral-roll search tells you whether your name is actually appearing in the roll.
Those are related, but they are not the same screen.
