Quick take: Pensioners aged 80 years and above have an exclusive window to submit their annual Life Certificate from 1 October, ahead of the general November window. The Government has continued this arrangement for super-senior pensioners, and 2026 government material confirms that pensioners above 80 can submit their Digital Life Certificate (DLC) in October. (Press Information Bureau)
You can use Jeevan Pramaan through a smartphone with Aadhaar-based Face Authentication, or use a bank, post office, CSC or other authorised centre. A successful DLC is made electronically available to the pension-disbursing authority. (Jeevan Pramaan)
Who can use the October window?
The special early window is for very senior citizens aged 80 years and above.
For other pensioners, the nationwide Digital Life Certificate campaign has traditionally operated during 1–30 November. Government guidance in 2026 again confirms that pensioners above 80 can submit their DLC during October. (Press Information Bureau)
Simple family rule:
80+ → start from 1 October.
Under 80 → plan for the regular November window, unless your pension authority specifies otherwise.
The exact validity of a Life Certificate is determined by the pension sanctioning/disbursing authority, so don't assume every pensioner's certificate has an identical validity period. (Jeevan Pramaan)
What is Jeevan Pramaan?
Jeevan Pramaan is an Aadhaar-based, biometric-enabled Digital Life Certificate for pensioners.
Instead of physically producing a paper Life Certificate at the pension office, the pensioner authenticates their identity and generates a digital certificate.
The certificate is stored in the Jeevan Pramaan repository and can be accessed electronically by the pension-disbursing agency. (Jeevan Pramaan)
It is designed for pensioners whose Pension Sanctioning Authority is onboarded on Jeevan Pramaan. (Jeevan Pramaan)
The easiest route for many families: Face Authentication
Jeevan Pramaan now supports Face Authentication using a smartphone.
The official application instructions currently require:
- Jeevan Pramaan app
- AadhaarFaceRD app
- Android 10+ or iOS 14+ for the current mobile requirements
- internet connection
- pension-related information
- Aadhaar-based authentication
With Face Authentication, a separate fingerprint/iris device isn't required because the phone camera is used for face capture. (Jeevan Pramaan)
This is particularly useful for elderly pensioners who find fingerprint authentication difficult.
Before 1 October: prepare this folder
Don't wait until October 1 to hunt for pension details.
Keep:
- Aadhaar number
- PPO number
- pension bank account details
- bank name
- mobile number linked/used for the process
- previous Jeevan Pramaan / Pramaan ID, if available
- pension sanctioning/disbursing authority details
The official Jeevan Pramaan process asks for pension-related information including Aadhaar, PPO, bank account and bank details. (Jeevan Pramaan)
Generate Jeevan Pramaan at home
The current mobile route is:
1. Install Jeevan Pramaan
Download the official application from the Jeevan Pramaan website/app-store route.
2. Install AadhaarFaceRD
The official Jeevan Pramaan download page identifies AadhaarFaceRD as the Face Authentication component. (Jeevan Pramaan)
3. Enter pension details
Provide the requested pensioner and pension information.
4. Complete Aadhaar authentication
Follow the Face Authentication instructions and allow the camera to capture the pensioner's face.
5. Submit
After successful authentication, the Digital Life Certificate is generated.
6. Save the Pramaan ID
Keep the acknowledgement/SMS safely.
Jeevan Pramaan says an acknowledgement containing the Pramaan ID is sent to the mobile number provided by the pensioner. (Jeevan Pramaan)
Don't have a smartphone?
That's fine.
Jeevan Pramaan can also be generated through:
- CSCs
- pension-disbursing agencies
- banks
- post offices
- government offices/authorised centres
- supported home/mobile/PC arrangements
The official portal specifically lists CSCs, banks, post offices and other authorised locations as routes for generating DLCs. (Jeevan Pramaan)
For an elderly pensioner, don't automatically send them to a bank queue. Check whether a nearby authorised centre or doorstep service is available.
Doorstep help matters for 80+ pensioners
Government arrangements also use India Post, India Post Payments Bank, post offices and Gramin Dak Sevaks to assist elderly pensioners, particularly those above 80, with Digital Life Certificate submission. Doorstep services are also used for aged, sick, incapacitated and Divyang pensioners during DLC campaigns. (Press Information Bureau)
If the pensioner cannot travel easily, ask the relevant bank/post office about the available doorstep facility rather than making an unnecessary branch visit.
After authentication: don't stop at the “success” screen
Save:
- Pramaan ID
- acknowledgement SMS
- downloaded certificate, if desired
- date of submission
The official Jeevan Pramaan system allows a pensioner to download the certificate using the Pramaan ID. (Jeevan Pramaan)
You generally do not have to physically submit the DLC to the bank/post office; the official FAQ says it is electronically available to the pension-disbursing agency. (Jeevan Pramaan)
Check whether it was accepted
Generation and acceptance are not exactly the same thing.
Jeevan Pramaan states that the certificate is subject to approval by the relevant Pension Sanctioning/Disbursing Authority. You can download the DLC to check its status. (Jeevan Pramaan)
If you receive a rejection SMS:
- Check the details entered.
- Contact the pension-disbursing agency.
- Correct the pension information.
- Generate a new Jeevan Pramaan where instructed.
The official FAQ specifically notes that incorrect particulars can result in rejection. (Jeevan Pramaan)
Jeevan Pramaan ≠ permanent certificate
A Pramaan ID is not valid for life.
The validity period is determined according to the rules of the Pension Sanctioning Authority. Once that period expires, a new Jeevan Pramaan certificate needs to be generated. (Jeevan Pramaan)
So don't save an old PDF and assume you are permanently covered.
Common mistakes by families
Don't:
- wait until the last week of November when an 80+ pensioner can use the October window;
- give Aadhaar OTPs to a random “pension agent”;
- enter the wrong PPO or pension-account details;
- assume a generated certificate is automatically accepted;
- throw away the Pramaan ID SMS;
- create another certificate repeatedly because the bank's system hasn't updated immediately;
- use an unofficial app downloaded from a forwarded WhatsApp link.
10-minute family checklist
For every pensioner aged 80+:

☐ Keep PPO number ready
☐ Confirm pension bank account
☐ Check mobile connectivity
☐ Install official Jeevan Pramaan components if using Face Authentication
☐ Generate DLC from 1 October 2026
☐ Save Pramaan ID
☐ Download/check certificate status
☐ Keep acknowledgement with pension papers
If the pensioner is bedridden
Don't make the Life Certificate into a physical-travel problem.
Government guidance specifically recognises the needs of aged, sick, incapacitated and Divyang pensioners and provides for doorstep assistance during DLC campaigns. (Press Information Bureau)
Ask the pension-disbursing bank/post office about the available doorstep route.
What if Jeevan Pramaan doesn't work?
If Face Authentication fails repeatedly:
Don't keep retrying blindly.
Check:
- Aadhaar details;
- pension/PPO details;
- internet connection;
- camera permissions;
- app versions;
- whether the pension authority is onboarded.
Then try an authorised CSC, bank, post office or other Jeevan Pramaan centre.
The official portal also provides a helpdesk number: 1800 111 555. (Jeevan Pramaan)
The October plan for an 80+ pensioner
September:
Collect PPO + Aadhaar + bank details.
1 October onward:
Generate the Digital Life Certificate.
Immediately after:
Save the Pramaan ID and acknowledgement.
Then:
Check/download the certificate and watch the pension account for normal continuation.
Don't wait for a pension interruption to discover that the certificate was rejected.
