Quick take: If you have left an EPF-covered job and want to settle your PF, Form 19 is used for PF final settlement, while Form 10C is used for the applicable pension withdrawal benefit. EPFO allows eligible members to submit these claims online through the UAN member interface. For online claims, your UAN must be activated, Aadhaar/e-KYC and bank details must be seeded, and the relevant employment dates must be available in EPFO records. (EPF India)

EPFO's online-claim documentation lists Forms 19, 10C and 31 as separate claim types. (EPF India)
Before you start — 10-minute check
Open your official EPFO member account and verify:
- UAN is activated
- Aadhaar is seeded and verified
- Aadhaar-linked mobile can receive OTP
- Bank account is seeded
- Bank account number and IFSC are correct
- Date of Joining is visible
- Date of Exit is visible
- Name/DOB/Aadhaar details are consistent
- All previous PF member accounts are consolidated/linked where necessary
EPFO's online-claim requirements specifically include an activated UAN, Aadhaar/e-KYC, bank account + IFSC, and PAN for certain Form 19 cases. (EPF India)
The biggest blocker: Date of Exit
Before attempting Form 19 or 10C, check that your Date of Exit is actually recorded against the employment.
EPFO's online eligibility flow requires the relevant joining and exit dates to be available in its database. (EPF India)
If your employer has not updated the exit date, the claim may not become available online.
Don't create a second UAN just because the old employment is missing.
Form 19 — PF final settlement
Form 19 is the claim for the final settlement of the PF component.
For the online claim route, EPFO's published requirements include:
- Date of Joining available
- Date of Exit available
- You are not currently working in an establishment covered by the PF Act
- The claim is submitted not before two months after leaving the establishment. (EPF India)
Important
Changing jobs does not automatically mean you should file Form 19.
If you have joined another EPF-covered employer, transferring/continuing the PF account may be more appropriate than treating the old PF as a final settlement.
Form 10C — pension withdrawal benefit
Form 10C deals with the pension component, subject to the applicable EPS rules.
EPFO's online-claim FAQ states that the member's total service must be more than 6 months and less than 9.5 years for the online Pension Withdrawal Benefit claim, in addition to the Form 19 conditions. (EPF India)
So don't assume:
“Form 19 approved = Form 10C automatically applicable.”
The two claims have separate eligibility checks.
What happens if you have 10+ years of pensionable service?
Don't automatically select Form 10C simply because you're closing your PF.
The pension side is governed by EPS rules, and withdrawal benefit eligibility depends on the applicable service/pension circumstances. If you have long pensionable service, check the pension option available to you rather than treating Form 10C as a universal pension withdrawal form.
PAN — don't ignore this
EPFO's online-claim FAQ specifies that PAN should be seeded for PF final-settlement claims where service is less than five years. (EPF India)
So if you have short service:
UAN + Aadhaar + bank + PAN
should be checked before you start.
How to file the claim online
Use the official EPFO Member Interface:
The current member portal confirms that members can log in with their UAN and also provides links for UAN-related services. (EPF Member Portal)
Typical flow:
Login → Online Services → Claim → verify bank details → Proceed → select claim type → authenticate → submit
The exact screen labels can change.
Step 1 — Login
Enter:
- UAN
- Password
- Captcha
If your UAN isn't activated, fix that first. EPFO's current member portal says UAN activation for existing UANs is now available through UMANG using Aadhaar-based Face Authentication. (EPF Member Portal)
Step 2 — Open the claim service
Go to the online claim section.
The system checks your eligibility and displays the claim options available for your account.
Depending on your records, you may see:
- Form 19
- Form 10C
- Form 31
EPFO's online-claim flow performs eligibility checks based on UAN, KYC and service data before allowing the relevant claim. (EPF India)
Step 3 — Verify your bank account
EPFO will display the bank account associated with your UAN.
Read every digit.
If the bank account is wrong, don't submit the claim hoping the payment system will somehow correct it.
Fix the KYC/bank details first.
Step 4 — Choose the claim
If eligible:
Form 19 → PF Final Settlement
and, where eligible:
Form 10C → Pension Withdrawal Benefit
Follow the portal's instructions for the claim available to you.
Step 5 — Authenticate with Aadhaar OTP
Online claim submission uses Aadhaar-based OTP/e-KYC authentication. EPFO's documentation states that OTP-based e-KYC from UIDAI is part of the online claim process. (EPF India)
Never give this OTP to an agent, employer or cybercafé operator.
Enter it yourself.
Step 6 — Save the claim acknowledgement
After submission, save:
- Claim ID
- Date of submission
- Screenshot/PDF acknowledgement
- Bank account used
- Claim type
The claim ID is your reference for follow-up.
Form 19 + Form 10C together
If the portal offers both and you satisfy the respective eligibility conditions, the online system can process the relevant claim types. EPFO's composite-claim documentation explicitly provides for Form 19, Form 10C and Form 31. (EPF India)
Don't assume that every member will see both options.
The portal's eligibility result is account-specific.
Why your claim may not appear
“Form 19 not available”
Check:
- Date of Exit
- Two-month waiting condition
- Current EPF-covered employment
- Aadhaar/KYC
- Bank details
“Form 10C not available”
Check:
- Total EPS service
- Date of Joining/Exit
- Other service records
- Whether the applicable pension conditions are satisfied
EPFO's eligibility flow specifically checks the service period for Form 10C. (EPF India)
Multiple employers? Check before claiming
This is a major one.
If you've worked for:
Company A → Company B → Company C
don't look only at the latest member ID.
Check whether your previous PF service is properly linked to the same UAN and whether there are multiple member IDs/accounts.
EPFO's online eligibility flow flags multiple member IDs and indicates that accounts need to be merged into a single account before proceeding in the applicable scenario. (EPF India)
Don't confuse final settlement with PF transfer
SituationRelevant actionYou left a job and joined another EPF-covered employerConsider PF transfer/continuityYou have permanently left covered employment and satisfy settlement conditionsForm 19 may applyEligible EPS service requiring pension withdrawal benefitForm 10C may applyNeed money while still employedForm 31 may apply
Your employment situation matters more than the amount visible in the passbook.
Tax/PAN caution
Don't treat Form 19 as simply “withdrawal = no tax.”
Tax treatment can depend on factors including your period of eligible service and applicable rules. EPFO specifically requires PAN in certain short-service final-settlement cases. (EPF India)
If the amount is substantial or your service history is complicated, check the current tax rules rather than relying on an old WhatsApp calculation.
After submitting — track it
Keep the claim reference.
You can also use the official EPFO passbook/claim-status service:
The official EPFO passbook portal currently provides EPF Passbook & Claim Status access. (EPF Passbook)
If the claim is rejected
Don't immediately submit the same claim five times.
Read the rejection reason.
Then identify whether the problem is:
- KYC mismatch
- Bank details
- Date of Exit
- Service eligibility
- Multiple member IDs
- Employer data
- Aadhaar authentication
- Other EPFO record issue
Fix the underlying record and then use the applicable EPFO grievance/follow-up route.
Employer says “we don't need to do anything”
For an eligible online claim, EPFO's published online process was specifically designed so the member can submit the claim electronically without having to submit the physical claim through the employer. (EPF India)
However, incorrect employer-record data can still prevent a claim from proceeding.
That is a data problem, not necessarily a signature problem.
Cyber-safety checklist
EPFO currently warns members against sharing:
- UAN
- Password
- Aadhaar
- PAN
- Bank details
- OTP
with callers or messages claiming to represent EPFO. (EPF Member Portal)
Also avoid anyone asking for a deposit to “release” your PF.
EPFO explicitly warns that it does not contact members to request monetary deposits. (EPF Member Portal)
One-sitting claim checklist
Before clicking Submit:
- UAN activated
- Aadhaar verified
- Mobile receives Aadhaar OTP
- Bank account correct
- IFSC correct
- PAN seeded where required
- Date of Joining correct
- Date of Exit recorded
- Previous member IDs checked
- Two-month condition checked
- Form 19 eligibility checked
- Form 10C service condition checked
- Claim acknowledgement saved
Mini scenario
Rahul leaves an EPF-covered job and doesn't immediately join another covered employer.
Before claiming, he checks his UAN:
Aadhaar ✓ → Bank ✓ → PAN ✓ → DOJ ✓ → DOE ✓
He waits until the applicable two-month condition is satisfied, logs into the official member portal, checks which claim options are available, submits the applicable Form 19/10C claim, authenticates with Aadhaar OTP, and saves the claim reference.
The important step isn't merely “withdraw PF.”
It's clean the EPFO record first, then file the claim that actually matches your service history.
