How voters.eci.gov.in and Voter Helpline Search Works During SIR

Quick take: During Special Intensive Revision (SIR), don't use just one voter search. The Election Commission's voter services now expose ordinary electoral-roll search, SIR-specific search tools, and “last SIR” search through the Voters' Services Portal. The Voter Helpline App provides the same core electoral-search function on mobile and can also surface polling-station and officer information. (Election Commission of India)

The important distinction is:

“Can I find my name now?” ≠ “Was my name present in the previous SIR roll?”

For SIR, you may need to check both.

1 Start at the official voter portal

Use the Election Commission's Voters' Services Portal:

voters.eci.gov.in — ECI Voters' Services Portal

The ECI currently lists separate services for:

  • Search Your Name in Electoral Roll
  • Search Your Name in Last SIR
  • downloading electoral rolls
  • finding polling-station details
  • finding BLO/ERO information
  • tracking applications

Bookmark the official domain. During SIR, forwarded links and unofficial “voter verification” forms are particularly easy to confuse with the real service.

2. What ordinary “Search in E-Roll” tells you

The normal electoral-roll search is essentially answering:

“Is this elector currently present in the searchable electoral roll?”

You can search using information such as:

  • EPIC number;
  • elector details;
  • constituency/location information, depending on the search interface.

The ECI identifies Electoral Search as the service for finding your name in the electoral roll and for obtaining polling information. (Election Commission of India)

If your name appears, check the details rather than stopping at the green tick:

Name → EPIC → Assembly Constituency → Part → Serial number → Polling station

3. Why SIR adds another search

SIR can involve comparison with an earlier electoral roll.

The current ECI portal has an explicit:

“SIR 2026 — Search your name in last SIR E-Roll”

The displayed search can include:

  • State
  • District
  • Assembly Constituency
  • Polling Station
  • Part Serial Number
  • elector name
  • indicative age
  • relative type
  • relative's name.

The portal itself says that name spellings can vary between the older SIR data and current records, and recommends trying variations if an exact-name search doesn't produce a result. (Voters)

That's important for older rolls where spellings, transliteration and data-entry conventions may differ.

4. “I am not finding myself” — don't panic after one search

A failed search isn't automatically proof that your electoral registration has disappeared.

Try this sequence:

Search 1

EPIC number

Search 2

Name + state/district/AC

Search 3

Try spelling variations.

Search 4

Narrow using district + Assembly Constituency + part where available.

Search 5

For SIR-specific verification, search the last SIR roll separately.

The SIR search itself tells users to add information such as District, AC and Part if the desired result isn't found. (Voters)

5. Last SIR search ≠ current electoral-roll search

This distinction is worth putting in bold in the article.

A person can therefore have:

No result in an old SIR search + current electoral-roll entry

or

A historical SIR entry + no current entry

Those situations require different next steps.

6. What the Voter Helpline App does

The Voter Helpline App is the ECI's mobile voter-service application.

Its electoral-search function allows voters to search using:

  • personal details;
  • EPIC;
  • barcode/scanning functionality where supported.

The ECI also lists registration/modification services, digital voter-slip functionality, complaints and election information among its features. (Election Commission of India)

So the app isn't a separate electoral database that citizens need to “register into.”

It is another ECI access point to voter services.

7. Search by EPIC first when you have it

If your voter ID/EPIC is available, it is generally the cleanest starting point.

Enter the EPIC exactly as printed.

Then check:

EPIC → name → constituency → part → serial → polling station

If something doesn't match your physical card, don't immediately submit a new registration application.

First determine whether it is:

  • a spelling issue;
  • an address/constituency change;
  • an old EPIC record;
  • a data mismatch;
  • or a genuine absence from the current roll.
8. Search by personal details when EPIC isn't available

If you've lost the voter card, ECI's search services can also work from elector details.

Have these ready:

  • full name;
  • relative's name;
  • approximate age/DOB;
  • state;
  • district;
  • Assembly Constituency;
  • locality.

For older SIR records, don't be overly literal about spelling.

For example, if the portal's own older-roll instructions indicate that spelling variations may exist, try plausible variations rather than concluding “not found.” (Voters)

9. Find your BLO after finding your record

The voter portal also provides access to BLO and polling-station information. (Election Commission of India)

This matters during SIR because the BLO is often the person handling field-level verification.

Save:

BLO name

BLO contact, where displayed

Part number

Polling station

AC

10. 1950 is your backup channel

If the online search doesn't resolve the problem, ECI provides the Voter Helpline 1950.

The ECI's voter FAQ says electors can verify their name through:

  • Electoral Search;
  • 1950;

If calling, have your EPIC and constituency details ready.

Don't give an unknown caller your Aadhaar OTP because they claim to be “the 1950 helpline.”

11. What if your name is on the current roll but missing from the last SIR?

Don't automatically file a new voter application.

First understand why the historical record isn't appearing.

The last-SIR database is historical material supplied by the relevant State/UT CEO. The ECI's SIR search page explicitly notes that the older-roll data is published as received from the concerned CEO and hosted without modification by ECI. (Voters)

That means differences can arise from:

  • old spelling;
  • constituency/part changes;
  • historical roll structure;
  • migration;
  • data availability;
  • other state-specific circumstances.

Your current electoral-roll status is a separate question.

12. What if your name is missing from the current roll?

This is where you move from search to remedial action.

If you're eligible and ordinarily resident but your name isn't in the roll, ECI's normal registration route is Form 6. ECI says Form 6 can be filed with the ERO/AERO, BLO, by post, or online through the voter-services system. (Election Commission of India)

During an SIR, however, follow the specific claims/objections procedure and dates published for your state.

Don't assume the same deadline applies nationwide.

13. If your name appears in an SIR deletion/ASD-type list

Some SIR implementations publish additional lists for electors who were in an earlier roll but did not appear in the relevant draft.

For example, the ECI currently hosts state-specific SIR search pages showing categories/listing information supplied by the relevant CEO.

If you see your name there:

Don't treat the list as the final legal conclusion.

Read the applicable state instructions for:

  • claims;
  • objections;
  • Form 6/re-inclusion;
  • hearings;
  • supporting documents;
  • deadlines.

The exact remedy depends on the SIR phase and state instructions.

14. Search result ≠ proof that everything is correct

Suppose your result says:

Name: Ramesh Kumar

EPIC: ABC1234567

Part: 42

Serial: 317

You still need to check:

  • Is the address correct?
  • Is the Assembly Constituency correct?
  • Is the polling station correct?
  • Is your photograph correct?
  • Is the relative's name correct?

ECI provides separate services for correcting/updating electoral-roll entries. (Election Commission of India)

A successful search is therefore step one, not necessarily the end of the process.

15. Don't confuse Form 6, 7 and 8

During SIR, choose the remedy based on what the record actually shows, not based on whichever form somebody forwards on WhatsApp.

16. Your 15-minute SIR search routine

For every adult in the household:

Step 1

Open voters.eci.gov.in.

Step 2

Run Search Your Name in E-Roll.

Step 3

Record:

EPIC + AC + Part + Serial + Polling Station

Step 4

Open Search Your Name in Last SIR where the service is available for your state.

Step 5

Try EPIC/details and spelling variations.

Step 6

Save screenshots of both results.

Step 7

Find the BLO/ERO information.

Step 8

If something is missing or wrong, read your state's SIR claims/objections instructions before filing anything.

Step 9

If the portal remains unclear, call 1950.

The one screenshot every family should keep

Create a phone folder called:

SIR 2026 — Voter Records

For each family member save:

  1. Current electoral-roll result
  2. Last-SIR result, if available
  1. EPIC/e-EPIC
  2. Part + serial number
  1. Polling-station details
  2. BLO details
  1. Application/reference numbers
  2. Any SIR notice
