PM-UDAY Deadline 31 October 2026: How Delhi Residents Can Apply for Ownership Papers and What an Extension Means
If you live in one of Delhi’s unauthorised colonies and haven’t applied for ownership papers, 31 October 2026 is the current deadline to act under the PM-UDAY scheme.
There is some important news: a report published on 26 October says the Delhi government is planning to extend the deadline because applications have remained low. However, a new deadline has not yet been officially confirmed. Residents should not wait for the extension before preparing their applications. (Source: Hindustan Times)
What Is PM-UDAY?
The Pradhan Mantri-Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana (PM-UDAY) was launched in 2019 to help eligible residents of unauthorised colonies obtain recognised ownership rights.
The scheme covers eligible properties in Delhi’s unauthorised colonies. Depending on the property and the land it stands on, eligible applicants may receive a Conveyance Deed (CD) or an Authorisation Slip (AS). These documents help residents establish recognised property rights. (DDA’s official FAQ)
Who Can Apply?
You may be eligible if:
- Your property is in a colony covered by the scheme.
- You have physical possession of the property and the required ownership or transaction documents.
- Your property meets the applicable conditions under the PM-UDAY regulations.
The documents accepted can depend on the nature of the property and the claim. Common requirements include a registered sale deed or gift deed, or the relevant chain of General Power of Attorney (GPA) and Agreement to Sell documents, along with possession and payment evidence.
Check the official PM-UDAY FAQs before applying.
How to Apply Online
Applications are processed online. Start with the official DDA PM-UDAY application page.
- Check whether your colony falls within the scheme’s notified boundaries.
- Review the applicable document checklist and arrange your property papers.
- Register or log in through the official PM-UDAY application portal.
- Complete the application and upload the required documents.
- Follow the instructions for scrutiny, GIS survey and any further steps applicable to your case.
- Keep your application number and check the status for updates or requests for additional documents.
If you need help, use the official DDA portal to find the relevant guidance and facilitation details. Avoid unofficial agents promising guaranteed approval.
What Does the Planned Extension Mean?
The current deadline was fixed for 31 October 2026. On 26 October, Hindustan Times reported that the Delhi government was planning to extend it following a low response.
Here is the distinction residents should understand:
- Current position: 31 October remains the published cut-off.
- Reported development: The government is considering an extension.
- What is still needed: An official notice confirming the revised date and any changed conditions.
Until such a notice is issued, do not assume applications will remain open after 31 October.
What About the 75% Rebate on Regularisation Charges?
There is a separate development for residents seeking regularisation of built-up structures. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) approved a 75% rebate on certain regularisation charges until 31 October 2026, for qualifying construction completed before April 2026.
This rebate relates to MCD’s regularisation process. It is not the same as the PM-UDAY application deadline for obtaining ownership papers. Any continuation of the rebate depends on the relevant government decision. (Source: The Times of India)
Why Are Ownership Papers Important?
Recognised ownership documents can help eligible residents establish property rights and support property transfer or mortgage-related transactions, subject to applicable rules.
However, receiving PM-UDAY documents does not automatically mean every building is approved or that all planning, construction and regularisation requirements have been met. Residents should check the separate requirements applicable to their property.
