Why is Indore property tax suddenly urgent?
In mid-October 2026, Indore Municipal Corporation's revenue teams started a recovery drive against big defaulters. Teams went to dozens of wards, including wards 5, 6, 7, 16, 33, 35, 55, 59 and 79, and sealed shops, houses and small industrial units where tax was pending. Many owners handed over cheques on the spot to avoid the lock.
IMC has said the drive will continue. If you've been putting off old dues, this is the time to check your account. Paying online takes ten minutes. Getting a seal opened takes much longer.
How do I pay Indore property tax online, step by step?
1. Open enagarpalika.mp.gov.in. This is the Madhya Pradesh urban services portal used by Indore and other cities.
2. Choose Property Tax from the citizen services or quick pay section.
3. Select Indore Municipal Corporation as your urban body.
4. Enter your Property ID. It's printed on your last tax receipt or demand bill. You can also search by owner name, ward or mobile number if the option shows.
5. Check the details. Owner name, address, area and the demand for 2026-27 plus any arrears.
6. Pay. Use UPI, debit card, credit card or net banking.
7. Download the receipt. Save it as a PDF and keep a printout with your house papers.
If the payment fails but money is deducted, don't pay again immediately. Wait 48 hours for the status to update, then check your property account. Our guide on common property tax payment errors covers failed payments and duplicate debits.
How do I find my Property ID if I've lost the receipt?
Try these, in order:
• Search on e-Nagarpalika using owner name and ward, if available
• Check old SMS or emails from IMC payment confirmations
• Raise a request on the Indore 311 app under property tax
• Visit your zonal office with your registry copy and Aadhaar
When you get it, save the Property ID on your phone. You'll need it every year.
How does self-assessment on the Indore 311 app work?
Since September 2026, IMC has added property tax features on the Indore 311 app. You can now:
• Do self-assessment of your property online
• File claims and objections against the tax demand
• Apply for 21 types of corrections in your property tax account
• Track your complaint or application live and see which officer has it
To self-assess, open the app, choose Property Self Assessment, fill in the details asked (area, type of construction, use as residential or commercial, location) and submit. If your tax looks wrong because the area or use is wrongly recorded, this is the cleanest fix.
What kinds of mistakes can I get corrected?
Common corrections people need:
• Owner's name after purchase or inheritance (name transfer)
• Wrong plot or built-up area
• Residential property shown as commercial
• Wrong address or ward
• Mobile number not updated
• Duplicate property accounts
Keep scanned copies of your registry, sale deed, or succession papers ready. For name transfer after a death in the family, you'll need the death certificate and legal heir documents too.
What happens if I don't pay?
The tax doesn't vanish. Surcharge keeps getting added to pending dues. After notices, IMC can attach and seal property, which is exactly what the October 2026 drive did. Old dues also cause trouble when you sell the property or apply for building permission, because a no-dues certificate is usually needed.
Is there any way to reduce old surcharge?
IMC has offered surcharge relief to taxpayers during National Lok Adalats. In March 2026, it collected a record ₹103 crore in a single Lok Adalat day: ₹99.28 crore from 16,759 property taxpayers and ₹3.83 crore in water cess, after surcharge relief. Watch IMC announcements for the next Lok Adalat if your arrears are large. But don't wait if a sealing notice has already come. Pay or talk to your zonal office right away.
How do I complain or appeal?
• Wrong demand or calculation: file a claim or objection on the Indore 311 app
• No response: call 1800-233-1311 or raise it through the Mayor helpline option on the app
• Still stuck: file an RTI asking for your assessment records. Our MP RTI guide shows how
• Ward-level issue: your ward councillor can push the zonal office
Real-life examples
A flat owner in Vijay Nagar. Neha bought a resale flat in 2025, but tax bills still come in the old owner's name. She applies for name transfer on the Indore 311 app with her registry, tracks it, and pays the 2026-27 tax online once it's updated.
A shop owner in Rajwada. Sanjay had three years of dues. After a notice in October 2026, he pays the current demand online and visits the zonal office with a plan for arrears before any sealing happens.
A retired teacher in Sudama Nagar. Her house was recorded as commercial by mistake, so the tax was too high. She files an objection with photos on the 311 app and gets the use corrected.

Final reminder
Check your Indore property account soon, ideally before the end of November 2026. Pay the 2026-27 tax online, fix any wrong area or name through the 311 app, and keep every receipt. If old dues are big, act before a notice turns into a seal. For ward-level issues, find your councillor, MLA and MP on NetaSampark's Madhya Pradesh page.
