What is the Ambedkar Medhavi Chhatra Yojana?
It's a merit scholarship run by Haryana's Social Justice, Empowerment, Scheduled Castes and Backward Classes Welfare Department. The idea is simple: reward students who score well in Class 10, Class 12 or graduation and help them move to the next level of study. The department announced on 28 October 2026 that online applications for 2026-27 are open till 30 November 2026.
Who can apply?
• You must be a domicile of Haryana
• Your family income must be below ₹4 lakh a year
• You must belong to Scheduled Caste, Vimukt Jati, nomadic and semi-nomadic tribes, Tapriwas, Backward Classes, or the general category, as per the scheme's slabs
• You must have the minimum marks shown below, and be continuing your studies at the next level
How much will I get and what marks do I need?
The amounts and cut-offs as announced by the department for 2026-27:
| Category | Exam passed | Marks needed (rural / urban) | Amount |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scheduled Caste | Class 10 | 60% / 70% | ₹8,000 |
| Scheduled Caste | Class 12, then joining graduation first year | 70% / 75% | ₹8,000 to ₹10,000 |
| Scheduled Caste | Graduation, then joining post-graduation | 60% / 65% | ₹9,000 to ₹12,000 |
| Backward Class A | Class 10 | 60% / 70% | ₹8,000 |
| Backward Class B and general category | Class 10 | 75% / 80% | ₹8,000 |
Notice the rural-urban gap. A student from a village school needs lower marks than one from a city school. Within a range like ₹8,000 to ₹10,000, the exact figure depends on the course and slab in the scheme rules, so check the full table on sewa.haryana.gov.in before you apply.
How do I apply on Saral, step by step?
1. Open saralharyana.gov.in and register, or log in if you already have an account.
2. Search for "Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medhavi Chhatra Yojana" in the services list.
3. Fill the form: personal details, Parivar Pehchan Patra (Family ID) number, category, income, school or college, marks.
4. Upload documents: mark sheet, caste certificate, income certificate, domicile, admission proof and bank passbook.
5. Submit and note your application ID.
6. Track the status on Saral using the same login.
Do it well before 30 November 2026. Saral tends to slow down in the last week.
What if there's a mistake in my documents?
Here's something many students don't know. If officials find errors in your documents, the department gives you three chances of 15 days each to fix them. If you still don't correct them, the application gets rejected. So keep an eye on SMS and your Saral account after applying, and respond fast.
Rural or urban: which cut-off applies to me?
Generally, the rural or urban tag goes by where you studied for the exam, so a village school means the rural cut-off and a school inside municipal limits means the urban one. The press note doesn't spell this out in detail, so check the scheme rules on sewa.haryana.gov.in. When in doubt, ask the District Welfare Officer before you submit, because a wrong choice can lead to rejection.
When and how does the money come?
The scholarship is paid by direct benefit transfer to the bank account you give in the form. A few things decide how fast it reaches you:
• Your application must be verified by the school or college and then by the district welfare office
• Any document correction you're asked for adds time, so reply fast
• The bank account must be active, in the student's name and linked to Aadhaar
If your status shows approved but no money has arrived after a few weeks, check the account with your bank and then contact the District Welfare Officer with your Saral application ID.
Tips to get it right the first time
• Apply early in November 2026 so your school has time to verify before 30 November 2026
• Keep scanned copies of every document ready in PDF before you start
• Use the student's own bank account, not a parent's, unless the form says otherwise
• Write down your Saral application ID and keep the acknowledgement safe
• Check your status every few days and respond quickly if a correction is asked for, because you get only three chances of 15 days each
Common mistakes that get forms rejected
• Income certificate older than allowed, or not matching Family ID data
• Mark sheet photo blurry or cut off
• Bank account not linked to Aadhaar or not in the student's name
• Wrong category chosen, like BC-A instead of BC-B
• Applying for the wrong level, like using Class 10 marks when you're now in graduation
How is this different from central scholarships?
This is a Haryana state scheme on Saral. Central scholarships like post-matric for SC students or the PM-USP scheme run separately on the National Scholarship Portal. Some students qualify for both, so check each one's rules. Our guides: National Scholarship Portal, step by step and NSP one-time registration.
Real-life examples
Example 1, a Class 11 student in Rewari village. Priya, from an SC family, scored 64% in Class 10 at her village school. That's above the 60% rural cut-off. She applies on Saral on 5 November 2026 for ₹8,000.
Example 2, a BA first-year student in Hisar city. Aman, BC-A, scored 72% in Class 12 at a city school. He checks the scheme rules on sewa.haryana.gov.in to see which slab applies to him before applying.
Example 3, an M.Com student in Panipat. Ritu, from an SC family, got 66% in B.Com at a city college. That's above the 65% urban cut-off, so she applies for the post-graduation slab.
