Which towns are voting?
All 21 urban local bodies go to polls together:
Agartala Municipal Corporation, Dharmanagar, Kailashahar, Kumarghat, Ambassa, Kamalpur, Khowai, Teliamura, Jirania, Ranirbazar, Mohanpur, Bishalgarh, Bishramganj, Melagarh, Sonamura, Udaipur, Amarpur, Santirbazar, Sabroom, Belonia and Panisagar.
Agartala is the big one. It has 3,62,582 voters, more than half the total, and 439 of the 783 polling stations. Dharmanagar comes next with 32,546 voters.
How many seats are reserved?
Out of 345 wards, 9 are reserved for Scheduled Tribes and 80 for Scheduled Castes, and 256 are unreserved. Separately, 162 wards are reserved for women, which cuts across these categories. So if your ward has a woman-reserved seat, only women candidates can contest there.
The voter count is 6,29,903: 3,08,115 men, 3,21,743 women and 45 third gender voters. Yes, women voters outnumber men in Tripura's towns.
How do I check if my name is on the ward voter list?
Municipal polls use the ward-wise electoral roll prepared from the Assembly roll. Here's how to check:
1. Check your Assembly roll entry first on electoralsearch.eci.gov.in using your EPIC number or details.
2. Note your part number and polling station. Your ward roll is built from these parts.
3. Visit the SEC Tripura website or your municipal office to see the ward-wise roll for your area.
4. If your name is missing, contact the Returning Officer's office for your municipality right away. For the Assembly roll, new names go through Form 6, but with polls this close, a fresh entry may not reach the ward roll in time.
Remember Tripura's SIR (Special Intensive Revision) is a separate exercise scheduled for later. It doesn't change who can vote on 27 November 2026.
What ID can I carry to vote?
Your EPIC (voter ID card) is the main document. The SEC has said voters whose names are on the roll can prove identity through alternative documents if they don't have EPIC, so nobody eligible is turned away. Carry an original government photo ID such as Aadhaar, passport, driving licence or PAN card. Photocopies and phone photos won't do.
How do I vote on 27 November 2026, step by step?
1. Find your polling station. Use your voter slip or check with your ward office a few days before.
2. Reach between 7 am and 4 pm. If you're in the queue by 4 pm, you can vote.
3. Show your ID to the polling officer, who checks the ward roll.
4. Get indelible ink on your finger and sign or thumb-print the register.
5. Press the button on the EVM next to your chosen candidate. Tripura's SEC is using EVMs from Bharat Electronics Limited, already first-level checked.
6. Check the beep and light to confirm your vote went through.
No phones inside the booth. Leave them outside or keep them switched off.
Want to contest? What candidates need to know
• Download the nomination form from sec.tripura.gov.in
• File it in person before the Returning Officer between 11 am and 3 pm, by 6 November 2026
• Only five people can come with you, and you can use at most two light vehicles for the nomination
• Scrutiny is on 7 November 2026; check that your forms and affidavits are complete
• You can withdraw till 10 November 2026
There are 23 Returning Officers (three just for Agartala) and 81 Assistant Returning Officers.
What can't parties and the government do now?
The Model Code of Conduct applies till 4 December 2026. That means no new schemes or projects announced for municipal areas, no use of government vehicles for campaigning, and no transfers of election staff without SEC approval. If you see cash, liquor or gifts being handed out, or posters on government buildings, complain to the Returning Officer or the District Municipal Election Officer.
Real-life examples
A first-time voter in Agartala. Riya turned 18 last year and got her EPIC in 2026. She checks her name on the ECI site, finds her part number, and confirms her ward with the municipal office. On 27 November 2026 she votes at 8 am before college.
A shopkeeper in Udaipur. Biplab lost his voter card. His name is on the roll, so he carries his Aadhaar and PAN on polling day and votes without trouble.
A woman candidate in Dharmanagar. Her ward is reserved for women. She downloads the form, gets her affidavit notarised, and files on 4 November 2026 with two supporters, leaving two days spare for any corrections.
